“Focus on what stirs you up inside, what is beautiful and true. Work on making something good—not something that is liked. Take responsibility. The work will lead you home.”
In this issue

Let's get into it.
What's good?
How I automate social media posts on Gold's Guide with Ghost and Zapier
A quick guide on how I set Zapier to automatically post to Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn every time I publish a new article on Ghost. Read more.
What's next?
The Long Now Foundation is planning 10,000 years into the future
This is one of my favorite articles I've written on Gold's Guide yet. I wrote about the group of inventors, innovators, and polymaths who are building a clock that will tick for the next 10,000 years.
The idea is to foster long-term thinking by creating a massive reminder of the distant future — a future which our actions will impact. Read more.
Nuggets
Interesting links and tidbits from around the internet.
A website that changes when you blink
Every time that you blink, this website changes its layout. Fascinating experiment in dynamic web design.
- Requires camera permissions but worth it to feel the strange feeling it evokes. Via Scott Kellum on Twitter
Words that don't translate
Words like “schadenfreude” or “hygge” don't really translate nicely into other languages. Turns out there's an entire website dedicated to creating a dictionary of these words: Eunoia.world
- Enoia is best described as a “well-mind” or “beautiful thinking”.
- Schadenfreude is a feeling of laughing at another's misfortune, hygge is a feeling of warmth, coziness, and contentment.
Michael Pollan on quitting caffeine for three months
“The first cup of coffee after three months off was psychedelic.”
Michael Pollan has dropped a lot of interesting knowledge about our relationship with plants during his press tour for his new book, This is Your Mind on Plants.
- He's done interviews with Tim Ferriss and Joe Rogan, and wrote this great article in The Guardian about the “invisible addiction” that we have to caffeine.
- Watch this great clip from his interview with Joe Rogan where Michael describes what it was like to quit caffeine for three entire months.
The Inner Ring of the Internet
“Focus on what stirs you up inside, what is beautiful and true. Work on making something good—not something that is liked. Take responsibility. The work will lead you home.”
- This is a must-read. A guest post on Every.to newsletter that's about writing, but really, it's about personal growth, attaching yourself to the zeitgeist, and knowing who you are and what's important to you.
Reading Roster
There's a lot of good writing out there on the internet — here are three great newsletters I've been enjoying lately.
The Proof
A newsletter on mental wellness by Adrian Alfieri. Everything from the site's design to the minimal language makes me feel relaxed.
- I really love the “stacks” section where different founders lay out their favorite products.
Dense Discovery
A delightfully thoughtful newsletter about tech, productivity, and life. A big inspiration for what I'd like to cultivate with this very newsletter you're reading right now.
- I really like how there are classified sections at the end of each issue. Feels nostalgic and novel at the same time.
- Nostalgic because it evokes the old-school print magazine or newspaper classified vibe. Novel because it's on the internet and it has an even wider reach despite being published by one person.
The Publish Press
Edited by Colin and Samir — the YouTube duo creating education for creators — the Publish Press features the latest news in the world of creators.
- A great resource for staying up on the most-current tech, media, and business news, like Logan Paul boxing Floyd Mayweather or Call Her Daddy selling to Spotify.
- Already feels like it's been one of my must-reads forever.
One more thing
Richard Branson went to space last week, and Jeff Bezos is set to take an autonomous rocket on July 20.
So naturally, Sam and I had to talk about space on the latest episode of our limited edition podcast, Summer School. We recorded this week's episode outside in Domino Park over in Brooklyn. Listen here.
We record and release new episodes of Summer School every Sunday — but only through the end of July.
Catch the final two episodes (or listen to previous eps) by following the podcast in Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Overcast.
Thanks for reading.
